Ottawa to explore bylaw to dim light pollution in neighbourhoods - by Josh Pringle


An Ottawa councillor is looking to dim the lights shining into neighbours’ backyards and properties across the city.


The emergency preparedness and protective services committee voted Monday to direct staff to include a possible light pollution bylaw as part of the Bylaw Review Work Plan during the next term of council.


“Residents have indicated concerns with light pollution affecting their use and enjoyment of their properties and homes that are not adequately addressed by the existing regulations,” said the motion submitted on behalf of Councillor Theresa Kavanagh.
